Most Humane City in America

San Francisco is America's most humane city, according to a study released by The Humane Society of the United States. The HSUS ranked the 25 largest metropolitan areas according to criteria such as the number of vegetarian restaurants per capita and Congressional leadership on animal issues. Seattle came in second and Washington D.C. rounds out the top three.

New York ranks 12th out of 25 Humane Index cities.
* Despite its top-tier ranks for electing humane lawmakers (#2) and shunning puppy mill cruelty (#2), New York is dragged down by having more fur retailers -- by a long shot -- than any other city in America (#25).
* New York’s award-winning media (#25) could help out by deeming more animal issues fit to print.

Find out the rank of your city and what you can do to improve its rating.

I have a modest goal, AB, and that is to move DC up at least one notch, although that may be hard to do consdering the competition ahead of us. But I figure that the journey to that goal will be worth the price I have to pay because of all the animals that will be spared suffering.
